Inside Man and Something New
Still on a Clive Owen roll here. The cable company has been offering HBO/Cinemax free until Wednesday so watched a few movies yesterday when I was done with my writing.
Now, I used to have HBO/Cinemax but had to drop them when the price got too steep.
Anyway, last night I watched Inside Man, which stars Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster.
A stellar cast and a great plot. Very much enjoyed it. And, finally, a New York city that looks like New York city is supposed to look like. Meaning ethinically diverse.
My only complaint was that Clive Owen spent most of his on-screen time with a mask over his face. Major bummer!
I also caught the last act of a movie I'd like to see in its entirety.
It's called Something New. It's a romantic dramedy about a young, professional African-American woman who, like so many young, profesional women, black or white, is looking for her ideal man. The problem is, when she finds him, he's white and her family and friends are not down with that at all.
As I said, I saw the last act so I know how it ends but I was impressed with the acting, particulary that of Sanna Lathan who plays Kenya, the heroine, and Simon Baker, her hunky love interest. Enough that I want to see the entire movie. So I went to the local library website, saw they had some copies and put a hold on it.
As for the non-movie viewing aspects of my life, I'm writing, writing, writing. My current ETA (Evil Temp Assignment) ended rather abruptly last Thursday so it looks like I'm going to have the upcoming week off. No pay for it, of course, but I'm going to do my best to write as much as I can while I have this free time. Hopefully I'll be back to work soon.
Writing-wise, I'm currently drafting a novel (half-way through it), working on a fantasy short story (a non-erotic one---yes, really! *grin*) and doing world-building for an upcoming urban fantasy suspense something or other.
So, till the next post, ciao!

Hi! I liked Inside Man too. And I hated Clive had on a mask most of the time. Loved the ending. I watched Children of Men last week. It was okay. But I never understood what had happened to the world.
I meant to add that I recommend Blood Diamond. It is really good!
Also another movie Clive is in which is not bad is Beyond Borders. He plays a doctor. You might like it. He looks good in Derailed but the movie itself was lacking.
Actually, "Beyond Borders" was my first ever Clive Owen movie I saw the trailer for the movie and, seriously, I was like, who the heck is this guy? He's GORGEOUS! And I went to see the movie the day it came out!
As for "Blood Diamonds", yep, saw that and liked it a lot. A bit hard to watch at times for what was done to those people but Leonardo did a fantastic job playing a good-bad guy. Since he's grown up and filled out he's become quite the handsome young man. Not that he was bad-looking before; just more cute than handsome.
The only movies I got to see during spring break last week were "300", "Happy Feet," and "Casino Royale."
Have fun with the writing! :)
I enjoyed Inside Man too--and was ticked at that stupid mask. :-) I'd don't really care for Leo, but we might give Blood Diamond a try. Hope the writing went well! I'll send a formal check in tomorrow!
Hi Tempest! I saw "Happy Feet" and really liked it. As for "Casino Royale" I had to add that to my DVD collection. :) And "300"? Have seen it twice already and I'm up for a third viewing. *grin* Can't wait for that to go to DVD!
Joely, I was never a big fan of Leo's either. However, both of his performances in "The Departed" and in "Blood Diamonds" have made me a fan in a big way. I was very impressed with him in both movies. He's grown up and he's become a very accomplished actor. I think you'll be surprised.
You are very industrious, aren't you? Good luck on your stories. Its the final stretch for the semester here, and I've been very lazy about my writing. Huzzah to the people who aren't lazy.
Oh, trust me, I'm terribly lazy, Arin. *grin* But I sometimes get these moments (moments, mind you) of industriousness.
Good luck on the rest of the semester. I do remember those days. :)
Anna - You're going to love "Casino Royale." First time I see a naked James Bond. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
